Your teaching experience

You’ll be based in an English language school during your TEFL experience in Phnom Penh and you’ll enjoy weekends off to sightsee. Most placements will involve teaching students with a range of ages and English ability from teens to mature learners, generally beginner to intermediate levels.

You can typically expect to teach up to 25 contact hours per week, plus some preparation time to lesson plan following the in-house curriculum. Your goal as an English teacher on this internship will be focused on conversational English practice.

However, depending on demand you may also have the opportunity to teach English for hospitality or healthcare, business communications and public speaking classes. Whilst there is a syllabus to follow, you’ll be able to ask advice from local teaching colleagues to assist with any help that you need.

Ten teaching workshops are also included in your TEFL internship training in-country.

Almost everyone is placed in one area of Cambodia’s bustling capital city

Cambodia offers amazing opportunities for visitors to learn about its history and culture too. Whether you stay in the capital on weekends or take a $25 dollar flight to Siem Reap, you’ll be spoilt for activity choices in your free time.

With $300USD monthly allowance you’ll enjoy a comfortable social life. It’s important to know the cost of living in Cambodia is extremely low-cost, a local English teacher can expect to earn just $250USD per month.

“Premier TEFL in Cambodia has been fabulous and left nothing unattended. After a very active life, this is not an easy step and easy decision to take and in fact it’s only after having found TEFL that it became a deal in my mind. I could not face the idea of retirement as a little homely routine.

TEFL has given me the chance to fill it with great and meaningful experiences and to get some insights on different countries and cultures.” — Monique, TEFL intern in Cambodia
