Gen Z is entering teaching in record numbers, and nearly one in five new TEFL teachers arrives from a previous career in finance, tech, healthcare or marketing, skills that command premium rates in Business English. Rising living costs in the UK, US, Australia and Ireland are also pushing graduates toward destinations where employers often provide housing and living costs are a fraction of home.

AI and the future of English teaching

AI is now an everyday classroom companion: adaptive learning platforms, writing assistants, pronunciation analysis, automated grading and content generation. The evidence is consistent, though. A 2025 ScienceDirect study found that ChatGPT plus teacher feedback significantly improved EFL writing outcomes, while AI alone produced only marginal gains.
