A birthday cake from my students

The greatest moments were definitely interacting with all the students. In Cambodia, students show a lot of appreciation to the teacher, during my birthday they brought a cake with my name on it.

Non-native speakers welcome here

Don't let the fact that you are a non-native speaker stop you; just do the TEFL course and get some teaching experience by volunteering.

English is wanted — and welcomed

I did not expect the English language to be so wanted. Every time I spoke to a Cambodian and told them what I was doing there, their faces almost always lit up.

Sights, people, students — all amazing

I could go on for ages about the rewarding parts but I'm gonna summarise by saying the sights, the experiences, the people I've met, and the students I've been able to help have all been amazing.

Making a difference, one student at a time

The feeling of making a difference in even just one student's life and the feeling of having an impact... This entire experience is rewarding. It's humbling.

  • Kampot

    Kampot

Chill out in gorgeous, peaceful Kampot, where you can climb Bokor Mountain on motorbike to find Popokvil Waterfall before taking a sunset river cruise to see the fireflies.

  • Cuisine

    Cuisine

Bugs were the main source of protein during the Pol Pot regime, and you'd be surprised how well a can of spiced snails pairs with Angkor beers and conversation.

  • Angkor Wat

    Angkor Wat

You + sunrise + a 12th century Hindu (now Buddhist) temple = a daybreak to remember. Buy your tickets & book your 5am tuk tuk in advance to avoid the queues.

How can I earn the upper pay scale in Cambodia?

Experienced teachers can expect to earn the upper end of the US $1,800 pay scale. Another factor is whether you hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) such as primary or high school teachers, or have a relevant teaching or education degree. For newly qualified ESL teachers, a salary of US $1,000 – $1,400 in Cambodia offers a very comfortable life with the opportunity to save money each month if you want.

What help is there for finding accommodation?

After your week-long hotel stay during orientation, you'll have full support from our team to arrange apartment and villa viewings at your teaching location. Budget guidelines per month: Private room in shared accommodation: $100 – $200; Studio apartment: $150 – $350; One bedroom apartment: $250 – $800; Two+ bedroom apartment: $300 – $900. Note: A down payment of one to two months' rent is normal when signing your lease.
