Questions and Answers
Is teaching English one-to-one hard?
Teaching English one-to-one is very different to teaching a standard size ESL class.
It can be a real challenge to teach online or one-to-one if you are not equipped with tried and tested methods of tutoring these types of classes.
Many TEFL activities simply won’t work if you have only one learner in the classroom. So, you will need to learn new practical ways to deliver engaging classes.
What is a one-to-one English teacher?
A one-to-one English teacher provides a completely personalized learning curriculum for their student.
One-to-one teachers coach learners individually. Often this is because the student wants to focus on a particular aspect of the English language such as pronunciation, fluency or formal writing. Or, in some cases it can be their preference to learn on their own.
What does a one-to-one English teacher earn?
The rates of pay for one-to-one English teachers, and those who teach online, varies depending on your experience and qualifications.
Online and one-to-one English teachers who develop their niche specialism areas, who create their own tailor-made curriculum and personalize lessons according to learner progress can earn $50 – $100+ per lesson (usually sold as part of a learning program).
Large online platforms typically pay by the hour or teaching slot, and often feature at the lower end of the pay scale between US$10 – $35 (on average).
