TEFL Job Summary

Teaching positions are in private Kindergarten and Language Schools, and placement locations are in medium and large cities throughout Korea including Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, Daegu, Busan and Gwangju.

There are daytime and afternoon schedules. Typically the school day starts at 9.00am, finishing by 6pm or 7pm Monday to Friday. Afternoon schedule classes run between 1pm and 10pm.

Daytime schedules are typical split with kindergarten classes in the morning and elementary school in the afternoon. Evening schedules usually begin with elementary classes in the afternoon and middle or high school classes until 10pm.

Through 30 hours of face-to-face teaching in school classroom settings each week, you will be aiming to improve your students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Any support you need for activity planning will be on hand from your teaching colleagues.

While applicants can state a preference for age group, lesson types and placement location it depends upon availability, we will endeavor to meet the preferences of teachers. Friends are also welcome to apply, placement together depends on availability.

    How it works

    Before you go, you’ll have an application form to fill out and documents to submit, a video chat and then you’ll be on your way.

    What do you need to Organize?

    International flights:You’ll need return flights (can be two one-way flights)
    Police check:You’ll need a clean national criminal record
    Health check: You’ll need to be fully vacinated against COVID-19 and provide a negative PCR test (taken within 48 hours of departure) and to budget US $65 for a medical exam in Korea

    Questions and Answers

    When will I get my flight reimbursement?

    Most schools offer a one-way flight to Korea reimbursement. This is usually paid to the teacher in their first month’s pay, which is around 6 weeks after arrival.

    Note: The flight itinerary and cost must be approved by the school prior to booking.

    What will my accommodation be like?

    Housing is provided throughout your contract which will be a furnished single studio apartment.

    In the rare case that you do not have an apartment provided, a housing allowance will be included in your job contract.

    Culture Tip: Aside from the inexpensive cost, dining out plays a large role in Korean socializing. Due to this, your housing might not have an extensive kitchen but you should be able to boil water and refrigerate food.

    How can I earn more than US $1,700 per month?

    Teachers with a degree in Education / English / Linguistics who teach a standard teaching schedule typically receive 2.2M KRW to 2.4M KRW (US $1,760-$1,930) per month.

    Teachers who teach at schools with longer hours can expect 2.4M-2.7M KRW (US $1,930- $2,170) per month.

    An experienced teacher is classed as someone who has completed 12 months of in-classroom ESL teaching.

    Some schools will offer overtime and performance-based bonuses too which will be outlined in your contract.

    What time off and holidays do I get?

    Teachers get weekends off plus all Korean recognized red days (공휴일), a.k.a. public holidays. There are typically between 12 to 16 red days annually.

    You will also have paid week-long summer and winter breaks… giving you plenty of time to tick off a few bucket list items!
