The only sane way through is to line the providers up side by side and check the receipts. So that is what we did. Every figure was checked directly against each provider's own public website and Trustpilot listing, and we tell you the exact date we checked.

How much does a TEFL course cost?
At sale prices, a flagship online TEFL course from these six providers costs between $109 and $465. Advertised "regular" prices run as high as $1,015, but TEFL sales are like hostel happy hours: technically limited, practically permanent. Judge every course by its sale price and what that price actually includes.
The spread is not random. At the bottom of the range you get 120 hours at Level 3, the entry standard. At the top you get something like our 300-hour Level 5 Advanced Diploma: more hours, a higher qualification level and more support. If you just want to test the water, a 120-hour course such as our 120-hour TEFL course is the classic starting point. Watch the fine print either way: extension fees, tutor access and job support after graduation are where cheap courses quietly get expensive.
Which TEFL providers are accredited or regulated?
Every provider on this page says it is accredited. The word is doing very different jobs, though. The strongest claim is a qualification regulated by a government body: Ofqual, the UK government's qualifications regulator, regulates Level 5 TEFL diplomas awarded through approved awarding organizations such as Highfield and Qualifi. DEAC's Approved Quality Curriculum program is a recognized American benchmark. Independent accreditors such as the British Accreditation Council, ODLQC and ACDL sit a tier below that.
On the pages we checked, Premier TEFL and TEFL Org named the broadest range of accrediting and regulating bodies, and The TEFL Academy and i-to-i both cite Ofqual regulation and DEAC approval. ITTT and myTEFL describe their courses as accredited but list their accreditors far less specifically on their sales pages, which makes independent verification harder. If a visa or employer depends on it, ask any provider exactly which body regulates the qualification. Almost everyone offers "tutor support", so the real questions are how much live human contact you get while studying and who is still answering your emails when you are job hunting in Hanoi eight months later. Look for scheduled live sessions rather than email-only feedback, and job support that lasts beyond your first application.
TEFL provider reviews: what Trustpilot shows
Confirmed Trustpilot scores among these six providers ranged from 4.4 to 4.9 out of 5 when we checked. The TEFL Academy held the highest score (4.9 from 2,248 reviews), while i-to-i had by far the largest review volume (3,232 reviews) at the lowest confirmed score (4.4). Our own profile stood at 4.7 from 635 reviews; you can read our reviews on Trustpilot. MyTEFL's Trustpilot page could not be verified when we checked, so we report no score rather than an unconfirmed one.
Read review scores the way you would read hostel ratings: volume and recency matter as much as the number, and the most useful reviews are the critical ones plus how the company responds to them.
Refund policies compared
Refund terms vary more than anything else on this page. ITTT makes the most unconditional promise: a full refund within 3 days of payment, no questions asked, plus a price match. Our own policy is a 14-day cooling-off period, minus a $30/£30/€30 admin fee, and it ends once you have completed more than two modules; we would rather print that plainly than hide it in the terms. The TEFL Academy relies on the standard 14-day statutory withdrawal right in its terms. i-to-i's "guaranteed pass" promise refunds you only if you fail despite following all tutor feedback. TEFL Org did not prominently state a guarantee on the pages we checked, and myTEFL's terms state that online course fees are non-refundable once you enroll. The boring advice stands: read the refund policy before you pay, not after.
How to choose a TEFL provider
- Check who regulates the qualification, not just the brand. Ask for the awarding body by name (for example, Highfield or Qualifi for Ofqual-regulated Level 5 diplomas).
- Compare like with like. A $109 course for 120 hours at Level 3 and a $465 diploma for 300 hours at Level 5 are different products, not different prices for the same thing.
- Ignore the "was" price. Judge value on what you actually pay and what is included at that price.
- Ask what tutor support means in practice. Email-only feedback and live workshops are very different experiences.
- Read the refund and extension terms before enrolling. Access periods, extension fees and refund windows differ sharply between providers.
- Verify reviews independently. Go to Trustpilot directly rather than trusting badges on a sales page.

Is a 300-hour TEFL course better than a 120-hour one?
It depends on your plans. 120 hours from an accredited provider meets the minimum requirement for most entry-level TEFL jobs. A 300-hour Level 5 diploma covers more teaching skills, sits at a higher qualification level and stands out with stricter employers and competitive markets. If you are treating TEFL as a career move rather than a one-year adventure, the extra hours usually pay for themselves.
What does Ofqual-regulated mean for a TEFL course?
Ofqual is the UK government's qualifications regulator. An Ofqual-regulated Level 5 TEFL diploma sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework and is awarded through an Ofqual-approved awarding organization such as Highfield or Qualifi. That is regulation of the qualification itself, which is a stronger claim than a private accreditation badge on a company website.
Which TEFL certificate do employers prefer?
Most employers set 120 hours from an accredited provider as the minimum. Where employers differentiate, a government-regulated qualification such as an Ofqual-regulated Level 5 diploma carries more weight than an unregulated certificate, because the employer can verify it independently of the company that sold the course.
Do TEFL providers actually help you find a job?
All six providers we compared offer some job assistance, most commonly a jobs board plus CV and interview help.
