Overview

Due to Popularity: Applications Full for 2023

Myanmar stirs up images of wild, sun-soaked valleys dotted with ancient temples, delicate tea leaves making their way to both your mug and plate and monks in ruby robes with twinkling eyes.

While teaching English in Myanmar, however, the sights will quickly take a backseat to the meaningful work you do as an ESL teacher.

Known throughout Asia as a confluence of Thai, Indian, and Chinese cultures, the Burmese will dazzle you not only with their hospitality and work ethic but also with their English teaching job prospects.

    Questions and Answers

    Is my start date/month flexible?

Yes, and we would encourage you to be flexible when choosing your preferred start month. Myanmar is now reopening for foreign teachers for the first time in two years which means that you will be one of the first to teach and travel here.

June and September are popular months for placement and have a larger orientation event, but we can place you during any month if you are comfortable to arrive solo.

Is Myanmar safe to travel to?

Myanmar is among the safest countries to visit in the developing world, in no small part due to their strict Buddhist culture.

Currently there are political tensions and a risk of civil unrest in certain parts of Myanmar, so all teachers are placed in either the capital city of Yangon or Mandalay which are very safe for all visitors.

    What housing assistance is available?

You’ll have full accommodation guidance to arrange your housing. During orientation you’ll share a dorm with fellow newly arrived teachers, the best way to get to know your new best friends!

You’ll have full flexibility for housing during the rest of your stay in Myanmar, many interns choose to stay in their Yangon hostel for a discounted rate around US$100 – US$200 monthly.

Alternatively you can plan to share a local style apartment, budgeting US$250-$300 per month.

TIP: For those seeking an apartment, keep in mind a deposit is usually required of 6 months’ rent in Yangon (although it is possible to find housing where this is negotiable).
