Teacher Training

Before starting your exciting new life in China, you’ll be required to hold a minimum of 120 hours of TEFL training. Master the key techniques of teaching English through total language submersion as well as develop your skills and understand what’s expected of you as an English teacher.

Your week-long arrival orientation is spent settling into Chinese life and culture as well as preparing for success in the classroom. You’ll dive into workshops in classroom management with your academic manager. Become familiar with the school curriculum, methodology and day to day practices. Throughout the year you’ll join regular professional development seminars and gain new teaching skills.

Full assistance is also provided during orientation for setting up your bank account, local phone number as well as guided apartment viewings.

After you settle in, you will spend the year teaching in one of 14 various locations.

What do you need to organize?

  • International flights: You’ll need return flights (can be two one-way flights)

  • Budget: Spending money for your first month plus excursions etc.

  • Police check: You’ll need a clean criminal record

  • Visa cost: You’ll have support to obtain your visa. Ask our team before applying if your home country is eligible for the correct visa.

  • Health check: You’ll need to provide a health statement

  • Insurance: It’s really important to sort your travel and health before you go!

  • Vaccines: Consult your local doctor for advice

Your Teaching Experience

During your five-day working week, you’ll complete 20 – 27 hours of face-to-face teaching, improving students’ conversational English in an entertaining way, using the PPP method (present, practice, production).

You will provide high-energy experiences for your young learners who will be 3 – 12 years old, and have plenty of time to prepare for class with 5 – 10 hours weekly set aside for lesson planning.

Placed in an English language school, a typical working week consists of two consecutive days off. Weekday classes fall between 3pm to 9pm and on weekends lessons run from 9am to 5pm.

Couples and friends are welcome to apply; we recommend applying early as placement together is based on availability.
