Prepare your senses for a complete cultural overhaul with our incredible paid internship opportunity in India, based in either Punjab or Tamil Nadu. One of the most enigmatic and beautiful countries, rich in architecture and natural wonders, India is famous for its exotic and unique culture. The Indian people are among the friendliest in the world, and students are polite, fun and extremely keen to learn English.
Before you travel to India, you’ll already be a qualified TEFL teacher having completed our TEFL 120 hour online course. The majority of TEFL employers – especially those who offer well-paid positions – prefer to hire teachers with a minimum of 120 hours basic tuition. Coordinated by a real English teaching professional, the internationally recognized certificate trains you in all the fundamental skills you need to teach English as a second or foreign language.
Before you go, you’ll have an application form to fill out, a video chat, submit all your documents and then you’ll be on your way to India.
You and the other interns will fly into Trivandrum International Airport, located in the beautiful seaside city of Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala State. You will enjoy a free transfer from Trivandrum International Airport to the beach vacation venue and a full orientation into Indian culture.
When it comes to life inside the classroom, you’ll be placed in public and private schools across the Punjab and Tamil Nadu provinces. The typical teaching schedule runs from Monday to Friday, and you should expect to teach five sessions every day, each being 45 minutes long. While the age groups will vary, the range is usually between 4 and 18 year olds.
After you settle in, you will spend the next few months gaining hands-on teaching experience in either of these states:
Both Punjab and Tamil Nadu have their own incredible cultural highlights, and throughout your time in India friendly locals will invite you into their homes – you’ll be treated like a long lost family member. The Golden Temple in Punjab is a must visit for all travelers – a sanctuary of spirituality with healing waters – and while you’re in in Tamil Nadu, you have to sip a davarah – a strong coffee in a Tamil style cup.
There’s also the opportunity to get 2 hours of Hindi language lessons per week, and you can even learn local state languages such as Hindu, Punjab, Tamil and Malayalam. As one of our most flexible programs, you’ll be able to organize your personal start date in India to suit your travel plans.
A great benefit of this internship is the allowance. As you will earn the same as a regular teacher in India, you will be able to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. And with rent-free accommodation including a private bedroom and food also included, your stipend will go a long way.
