Your Trip Itinerary
Getting there
All qualified applicants will fly into Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) where you’ll be picked up by our in-country team.
Orientation
You’ll enjoy a full weeklong cultural orientation and teaching preparation upon arrival, including a welcome dinner. This itinerary is packed!
During orientation, you will learn about Khmer culture, language and society, while forming friendships with other teachers. Previous cultural excursions included visiting the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek, Buddhist Temple trips and the local market.
You’ll also have the unique opportunity to practice your culinary skills at a Khmer cooking class.
Your teaching experience
At your teaching location you’ll have full support through a local agent to choose your housing and after settling into your new home, it’s time to get into the classroom!
You’ll be confident to face any teaching situation after completing 120 hours of certified teacher training plus your orientation week.
You’ve got a full 12 months to make a difference in your students’ lives while teaching English in Cambodia, and we want to help you live life to the fullest for EVERY one of them.
You’re now ready to start teaching English 22-30 hours weekly over 5 – 6 days to students ranging from kids to teens, beginners to intermediate levels.
Expect to follow a provided syllabus, private and International Schools can typically follow a British, Australian, Canadian or US curriculum Mon – Fri and holidays often coincide with the country that your school syllabus follows.
With 2-3 weeks of vacation time plus all public holidays (between 17-22) and a great salary to enjoy, you will have a long list of sightseeing and travel plans. Book a boat trip, visit an ancient temple and grab a fresh sugar cane juice with new friends. Prepare to check off a few amazing bucket list items!
After your internship
Congratulations, you did it! Make sure to celebrate this achievement. It’s time to decide if you’d like to see more of Cambodia, traveling or teaching (or both).

How can I earn the upper pay scale in Cambodia?
Experienced teachers can expect to earn the upper end of the US $1,800 pay scale. Another factor is whether you hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) such as primary or high school teachers, or have a relevant teaching or education degree.
For newly qualified ESL teachers, a salary of US $1,000 – $1,400 in Cambodia offers a very comfortable life with the opportunity to save money each month if you want.
What help is there for finding accommodation?
After your week-long hotel stay during orientation, you’ll have full support from our team to arrange apartment and villa viewings at your teaching location.
There is a wide range of housing available for rent in Cambodia, with plenty of options for every budget.
Almost all rental apartments are fully furnished and some offer services such as cleaning, 24-hour security, garbage collection, and WiFi.
Budget guidelines per month:
- Private room in shared accommodation: $100 – $200
- Studio apartment: $150 – $350
- One bedroom apartment: $250 – $800
- Two+ bedroom apartment: $300 – $900
Note: A down payment of one to two months’ rent is normal when signing your lease.
Do I need to be vaccinated for Covid-19?
Yes, Cambodian schools still require teachers to be fully vaccinated at this time.
