I did a 30 hour online tutoring specialization course and got it at an unbeatable price and received a free Advanced Grammar book. I also appreciate the ongoing support from Premier TEFL and special invites to online seminars and podcasts on TEFL life abroad and overall tips for teacher success. Special thanks to Sandra Lane for helping with the processOne thing I would have loved to have included upon completing is a 30 - 45 min online teaching practice session to prepare for work. But these are usually extra. Would've also liked to go a bit deeper in online teaching preparation.

I signed up for the Level 5 TEFL course with Premier TEFL and must say I am impressed with the information it provides. Sarah was very instrumental in my decision in helping me to choose the course which would be most beneficial to me and I appreciated the guidance she provided. I have found the courses to contain a lot of information which will support me when I start to teach and I must say, I am excited to do so! What I also appreciated also were the extra resources that were listed in the lessons for things that interested me more or that I felt warranted more learning. For anyone looking to enter the EFL world, I would definitely recommend Premier TEFL. Happy Teaching!

I Inquired on Chat regarding a teaching practicum. While the practicum did not cover what I was looking for, the chat person provided me with some other links within Premier. That was generous and kind.

I'm not far into the course but as of yet it seems lengthy and comprehensive.I'm doing the 168 hour level 5 TEFL, it does in fact seem to take around 168 hours to complete and is great value for the money.I've been contacted several times so far by Premier TEFL staff, wishing warm welcomes and it seems quite supportive (although I have yet to ask for support). So far so good, I'm happy to be studying this course and will likely enter another course with them after this one.

Questions and Answers

What does TEFL stand for?

TEFL is the acronym for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

What is the difference between TEFL/TESOL/CELTA?

TEFL – ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’ certificate, is the most commonly accepted certificate worldwide. This certificate allows you to teach English to non-native speakers across the globe.

TESOL – ‘Teaching English as a Second Language’ aka TESL. Similar to TESOL students, as a TESL teacher, you would likely be teaching English in your home country to students who have moved or live in an English speaking country. In other words, they are continuously surrounded by the language and will be using it everyday outside of the classroom, unlike TEFL students who are likely learning in their home country.

CELTA – Known as the ‘Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults’ is a very prestigious certification. In order to receive a CELTA, you must complete a 120-hour course along with six hours of observed teaching practice with real ESL students. The majority of CELTA programs are held over four weeks and are full time. However, you may be able to find some courses that are part-time and are spread out over three months. The CELTA program must follow a strict regulation created by Cambridge University.

Which is better TEFL or CELTA?

CELTA is designed specifically for teaching adults. For budding English teachers planning to teach younger learners, an alternative TEFL qualification may be more suitable.

Nowadays, it’s possible to gain an online Level 5 TEFL qualification which is an equivalent academic level to a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL.

CELTA courses are typically delivered over a four week period in a full-time classroom setting and include 6 hours of observed teaching practice. This hands-on training will be appealing to many trainee teachers by comparison to self-study online.

Do I need a bachelor’s degree to do a TEFL course?

No, you do not need a degree to take a TEFL course or get hired as an English teacher. This is a common misconception. The core requirement to undertake a TEFL qualification is a native level of English fluency.

In certain countries, a degree is required to obtain the correct work visa, in order for you to work there legally. Employers worldwide can also state a preference for degree-holding applicants. If you feel suitable for a role, however, do not hold a degree it is still worthwhile applying for these jobs as you may be interviewed based on the strength of your overall profile.

What TEFL certificate is best?

There are many factors that will determine the best TEFL course to suit your personal needs. There is no definitive one-size-fits-all answer to this question, and in truth, there are many excellent TEFL training providers to pick from.

When searching for your perfect match training provider, consider the following when making up your mind: online review scores, alumni testimonials, accreditation, range of courses on offer, job supports, personal experiences, and friendliness of the staff.

Are online TEFL courses worth it?

Yes, online TEFL courses are absolutely worth your time and money – once you choose a reputable training provider to study with. Online TEFL courses have been around since the early 1990s and in a time when you can earn an entire degree online, there is plenty of merit in self-study TEFL training.

Boost your teaching job opportunities by completing a Level 5 TEFL qualification; a teaching award that is available to take online and is an academic equivalent to CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL.

Can you fail a Level 5 TEFL course?

Yes, you can fail a Level 5 TEFL qualification. Once your assessment is complete it will be marked by your academic tutor. You will receive two opportunities to re-submit any answers that have been marked as incorrect. If, after your third attempt, you still have not passed your assessment questions successfully, your coursework will be marked as a fail.

These courses are equivalent to CELTA and require a good amount of commitment from trainee TEFL teachers. Supports are available to help you during the assessment and reassessment process, on the journey to achieving a prestigious teaching award.

How long does it take to complete a Level 5 TEFL course?

Typically it takes around 13 – 16 weeks to complete a Level 5 TEFL course, depending on how much free time you have to study. You will have 6 months of study time from the day that you enroll and can add more time if you run out.

As a self-guided course, you do not have to wait for scheduled classes, classmates, or seminars, you complete the 11 modules of coursework in your own time, at your preferred pace.

Do I need to submit TEFL assignments?

All of your online TEFL course assignments are self-contained within your learning portal. At the end of each module, you’ll be tested on the knowledge gained during the most recent topic.

Level 5 assessments will include a mix of multiple-choice and essay-style questions. At the end of your course, your exam assessor will review your open ended questions and answers, and contact you if any re-assessment is required. This is common on a Level 5 TEFL qualification.

Will I have a personal TEFL tutor?

All trainee TEFL teachers will have a personal tutor to help them with academic queries. Your personal TEFL tutor will be assigned to you one or two days after course enrollment, you will have their direct email address so that you can contact them when you need support throughout your course.

Your personal tutor may be a different person from your academic assessor, who will be responsible for marking your TEFL course assessments.
